Sea Eagle Michael Bani tore ligaments in his ankle prior to the Broncos game on May 11 but was planning to travel up with the team to see his family. Luckily Manly doctor Paul Bloomfield performed an ultrasound on Bani’s leg and located a 8-10cm blood clot before he did so. The blood clot could have caused deep vein thrombosis had he boarded the flight, which is potentially fatal.
According to the Sun-Herald, Bani was being treated with blood-thinning injections twice a day and if that was not successful would be put on Warfarin and not be able to play for six months. It is predicted he will now be available for the Sea Eagle’s Round 16 game against the Knights on June 28.
