The Australian Olympic Men's Football team will be announced on Friday July 4 and one Australian who will be waiting to hear his name called is Brisbane boy, David Williams.
Williams, 20, played for the first time for the Socceroos in the final game in the group World Cup qualifying stage on June 22 in their 1-0 loss to China, though Australia will advance to the next stage. He played as a reserve and was on the field for 30 minutes.
Since then he has been in Darwin representing the U23 Australian team in two friendly games against Chile. The U23s lost to Chile 3-4 in the first game last Friday and drew the second game, 1-1, last Sunday.
Williams was a member of the Australian U20 team that competed at the 2006 Asian Youth Championships after he played for a short time for the Queensland Roar. He debuted for the Qantas Young Socceroos in 2005 and played in the World Cup in Holland, as well as, being selected in the U17 Australian World Championship Team 2005, after kicking 10 goals in his first 10 matches as a junior international and was the highest scorer at the Oceania qualifying tournament.
Williams is currently in his last year of a three year deal with Danish heavyweight, Brondby in Copenhagen. Brondby will be competing in the UEFA Cup 2008. He has a vision to play for Liverpool in the English Premier league in the future.
