JOHNSON CAPTAINS AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR WOMEN’S INLINE HOCKEY TEAM

Tennelle Johnson was named captain of the Australian Junior Women’s Inline Hockey Team earlier this year, as they embarked a busy few months competing in the 2008 Oceania Games in New Zealand and the AAU Junior Olympics in Pennsylvania.

At the Oceania games, held in April, the Australian Junior Women lost four out of five games to New Zealand but used the experience as training for the Junior Olympics. Inline Hockey is more widely recognised as a sport in New Zealand and they have much bigger player base than Australia.

The setting for the AAU Junior Olympics was the Sportsplex in Feasterville which was an amazing facility. It boasts over 10,000 square feet of indoor space with three identical, competition sized rinks with sports court flooring.

At the event the Junior Women placed fourth in the International Silver division and second in the Elite International division, where they once again met New Zealand in the final.

Johnson started playing indoor hockey in 2005 and since then has been a regular in many National and State representative teams. She has even played for South Australia when Queensland failed to field a team and in 2007 she was given the captaincy of the Queensland Senior Women’s Team. She was selected in the Junior Team that competed in the 2007 Oceania Games but missed the tournament due to injury.
