The “Good Luck Beijing” 2008 China Athletics Open was held recently with a number of Australian’s competing in the lead up to the Olympics. Last year’s Catherine Freeman Encouragement Award winner Otis Gowa and Eddie Gilbert Medal nominee Robbie Crowther both competed.

Crowther came away with the gold medal for the long jump, beating Yu Zhenwei and Cai Peng with a 7.94m jump in the final.

Gowa unfortunately failed to qualify for the semi-final for the 100m after being ranked 18th after round one and 20th at the completion of round two.

In the basketball “Good Luck Beijing” Test Event the Opals, including Rohanne Cox, won the Bronze Medal after beating Cuba 65-61 in the play-off for third. China won gold with a 84-81 win over silver medalists USA.
