St Peter’s students George Bell and Rex Liddy are taking advantage of the experience offered by AFL SportsReady by completing a traineeship at the Indooroopilly Golf Course.

“Both young men enjoy the ‘open spaces’ of the course and display a considerable amount of determination and self discipline in juggling their sporting, academic and work commitments which is a credit to both themselves and their families,” said St Peters Indigenous Education Officer Murray Paterson.

“Subsequently Rex and George are excellent role models for young teenagers within their Cape York communities,” he said.

Bell, who hails from the Cairns district, is involved in the St Peters Rugby Development Program. He has had a bad run of injuries this year and missed out on representative selection but has previously been a regular in the representative sides.

Liddy, whose mother and grandmother both attended St Peters, attends the school on an AFL Queensland Scholarship. He is regularly chosen for representative teams, is a part of the AFL Indigenous Leadership Program and has captained an Indigenous AFL Team on a tour of South Africa.

Liddy is also a talented athlete and won the 100m final in 2007 at the AIC Championship.
