| HERBERTON INDIGENOUS RUGBY PLAYERS A LINK IN THE GAME’S HISTORY |

Pictures of indigenous rugby league players from Herberton could help give insight into the role of Aboriginals in developing the game in Queensland.
Historian, David Huggonson, is currently writing a book on Aboriginal participation in rugby league from 1908 to 1958.
While researching the book, he came across a photo of the 1925 Herberton Rugby League team. Hoping to find out the names of the two indigenous players in the photo, he placed notices in several local newspapers. David says he now believes the players are "J. Haines" and "G. Smyth" according to another photo he has since received from a Herberton local.
