ALEX SHOWS PROMISE

Ten year old Alex Harrison broke the West Bundaberg Little Athletics U11 record for the 70m sprint on last week, in a time of 9.2 seconds. The previous record of 9.5 seconds was set by Ryan Bennett in 1992.

Alex previously broke the U10 club record for the 70m sprint at Bundaberg Little Athletics and has been the regional 70m sprint and 60m hurdles champion for the past two years.

He is just three weeks shy of qualifying for the U10 age group which means he competes in the U11 despite having been 10 just a few months. His time of 9.2 seconds for the 70m sprint would have broken the National Record in the U10 age group.

As well his athletics, Alex is a keen Rugby League player and has often scored tries from the backline for the Western Suburbs Panthers. Coach Wes Tanner believes he is one of the fastest kids he has ever seen and says Alex will be an extremely valuable when they play on a full field in the U11s next year.

Alex comes from a family of great athletes with Lionel Rose and Stawell Gift winner Noel Hood amongst his relatives.
