CROWTHER AND GOWA HIT TRACK AND FIELD

Otis Gowa
Robbie Crowther and Otis Gowa have been busy since the last instalment of the ISQ newsletter, with the Queensland Open and Under 18 Track and Field Championships and the 2008 National Open and AWD Championships.

Crowther competed in the Men’s Open Long Jump at both events. He finished first in the Queensland Championships with a 7.92m jump and jumped 7.89m to take out the Australian Championship.

Gowa also attended both events, finishing third in the Men’s 100m Open Final and second in the 200m Final at the Queensland Championships with times of 10.59 and 21.26.

He made headlines at the Australian Championships, winning the 100m ahead of Matt Shirvington and Patrick Johnson who protested the race be re-run due to an unfair start. The protest was denied and Gowa took the Australian Title with a run of 10.63, less than two years after he was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Unfortunately the time was .35s short of the Olympic Qualifying time.
